*President Barack Obama is venturing into hostile territory on Wednesday to grant an interview with the Fox News Channel.

The conservative-leaning cable network, which a top administration official once referred to as a political arm of the Republican Party, will feature the president at 6 p.m. in an interview with Bret Baier.

The focus will undoubtedly be the push by Obama and Democrats to get the health care bill passed in the House despite solid Republican opposition and the lessening of public support for the legislation.

At the White House briefing this afternoon, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs was asked if the president believed he could really sway viewers who watch Fox. It’s “certainly worth a shot,” Gibbs said, adding that Obama was well aware that wavering Democrats and their constituents tuned in to the network.

A year ago, aides in the Obama administration used the in-house White House blog and other media to blast the network for its coverage, particularly its commentary. Fox officials defended their reporters, taking pains to put distance between pundits and those working the White House and other beats.
