Terrence Howard turns 41 today.

Just like the headline says, this page/board is where you can discuss the stuff that we didn’t cover in today’s issue. (It’s sort of like feedback with a twist) Remember, NO name calling, racial taunting, graphic sex talk and vulgarity in general, PLEASE.

Today’s ‘Live Better With Willie Jolley’ Tip: The Self-Fulfilling Prophecy

Today’s tip for success is focused on helping you overcome this challenging economy. It is taken from my new book, Turn Setbacks Into Greenbacks. Commiserating can create a psychological construct, a self-fulfilling prophecy-a situation that is not yet true but has the potential to become true, because you have created an expectation that it will become reality. The more you talk about bad news, the deeper its impact will be on your psyche and your physiology.

A study was done at the University of Texas regarding the impact of bad news on the psyche of athletes. A football player was selected to be one of the case studies. After practice, he was asked by a researcher, “How are you doing?” He responded, “Outstanding! Fired up! It was a great practice and I am ready to take on the world!” The person in the study responded by saying, “Are you sure? You look a little sick!” The football player replied, “No, I feel great!” A short while later, the football player was approached by a different person associated with the study and asked the same question. The football player responded, “I feel fine.” The person in the study then replied. “Alright, but you look a little sick.”

Over the next few hours, different people stopped the football player and asked the same set of questions and gave the same “you look sick” response. By the end of the day, the football player was feeling sick and depressed, because he had been inundated with so much gloom and doom and bad news about his health. In reality, he was not sick, but the high level of negative news made him think he was. It is critical that you stay away from the gloom-and-doomers …they can make you sick!
