*The life of civil rights icon Dr. Benjamin Lawson Hooks will be remembered in services set for today and tomorrow in his hometown of Memphis.

A public viewing will be held this afternoon from 12 to 3 p.m. at Greater Middle Baptist Church (4982 Knight Arnold Rd.), followed by a wake and fraternal memorial services from 5 to 8 p.m.

Another public viewing will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday (April 21) at Temple of Deliverance COGIC (369 G.E. Patterson Ave), followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m.

Hooks, 85, was a lawyer, a Baptist minister and longtime head of the NAACP during the post-civil rights era.  He died April 15 at his home in Memphis.
