*Tyler Perry’s upcoming film version of the play “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf” has gotten its first major male cast member – and he’s on a horse.
Joining a cast that so far includes Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whoopi Goldberg, Phylicia Rashad and Anika Noni Rose is Isaiah Mustafa, the “man your man could smell like” in the popular Old Spice commercials. [Watch below.]
Via Skype, Mustafa was being interviewed on Friday’s “Oprah Winfrey Show” about auditioning for Perry when the filmmaker, seated next to Winfrey, surprised him with the good news.
“I just want to tell you, you got the part, man,” Tyler told Isaiah. “You did a great job. You got the part.”
Mustafa, a former NFL player, says he came up with his special Old Spice voice after calling his friend Jake Plummer, a former Denver Broncos quarterback, and getting his voicemail. He decided to read his lines aloud into the recording, and then select the option to play it back so that he could hear how it sounded.
Happy with the voice he’d created, which he described to Winfrey as a “little bit of James Brolin and a little bit of Adam West,” he used it in his audition. The rest is history.
