*Will Smith has reportedly turned down the starring role in an upcoming Marvin Gaye biopic from director Cameron Crowe.

According to Daily Variety, the actor spent months in negotiations to portray the legendary singer, but the parties were unable to reach an agreement.

The “Almost Famous” director says he will forge on to find the right leading man.

“It’s all about getting the contact high in a movie theater that you can get from music. A record can change your life,” he said. “Somebody poured their life into that little piece of music. To me that’s a hero.”

Crowe has been quietly working on a Marvin Gaye biopic for three and a half years, Variety reported. The site further revealed that Scott Rudin is attached as producer.

Meanwhile, Smith’s camp has denied reports that the actor has signed on for two more sequels to the “Independence Day” franchise. To be more precise, the publicist denied his attachment to the projects at the present moment.

IESB had reported that Smith is a go for “ID3 and 4” and that the movies would be shot back-to-back, with principle photography on “3” starting as early as 2011 under director Roland Emmerich.

But, a rep for the actor told Gossip Cop the report is “not true at this time.”
