*A federal grand jury last week indicted three current and two former New Orleans police officers in the death of a Black man they shot and allowed to bleed to death during the 2005 turmoil which existed in the city following Hurricane Katrina.

For years the New Orleans Police Department attempted to cover up the death of Henry Glover. But an article by investigative reporter A.C. Thompson prompted a federal investigation.

Officer David Warren was charged with shooting Glover in the chest with an assault rifle. Two other officers were accused of burning Glover’s body and then assaulting a man who attempted to help Glover after he had been shot.

Currently, there are seven other federal investigations into the actions of New Orleans police officers during the Hurricane Katrina period. (source: Taylor Media Services)
