*Tyler Perry and his 34th Street Films are currently in preproduction on “We The Peeples,” his 12th film for Lionsgate.
According to Variety, the comedy is about a young man enduring the weekend from hell when he surprises his girlfriend by showing up to meet her parents during the family’s annual end of summer celebration.
Tina Gordon Chism, whose scripting credits include “Drumline” and “ATL,” is nearing a finalized deal to direct her own script.
Lionsgate has already lined up release dates for the next two Perry films — a feature adaptation of “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf” on Jan. 14, Perry’s first film to be based on non-original source material; and “Madea’s Big Happy Family” on April 22. Perry will again play Madea, as well as write, helm and produce.
The cast of “We The Peeples” is expected to be announced shortly.
