*Los Angeles – Richard Lawson, renowned veteran Actor-Writer-Director appears in the role of Frank opposite Loretta Devine (Juanita) in For Colored Girls, Tyler Perry’s movie adaptation of “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf,” Ntozake Shange’s award-winning Choreopoem which made it’s Broadway stage debut in 1974.

Lawson is remembered for his outstanding performances in films that include: Poltergeist, Streets of Fire, Stick, The Main Event, Coming Home, Audrey Rose, Bag The Dog, How Stella Got Her Groove Back and Guess Who? to name a few. Most notable are his television roles including: Series regular roles on The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd, Dynasty (opposite Diahann Carroll), Chicago Story, and guest starring roles on MacGyver, Wise Guy, Amen, Parenthood, St. Elsewhere, Picket Fences, Judging Amy, The Division and NYPD Blue. He also created the role of ‘Lucas Barnes’ on the soap opera All My Children.

March 22, 1992, Richard Lawson was on board USAir’s flight 405, which crashed during takeoff from New York’s LaGuardia Airport. 27 passengers died and 24 survived. Lawson says:

“An event of this magnitude has had an indelible effect on my psyche and spirit” “Events surrounding the plane crash inspired me to write a yet unpublished book, which I am currently adapting into a screenplay.”

Thirty years ago, Richard started teaching for his mentor, master teacher, director, writer and painter, Milton Katselas. He’s had the pleasure of teaching tens of thousands of some of the most successful and well-known actors and directors in the world. After receiving the best actor nod while being directed by Katselas in the award-winning production of Streamers, Milton wrote:

“Richard, you are one of the main reasons I believe in my teaching.”

Since Katselas’s passing, Lawson has opened his own complex called the Richard Lawson Studios in Sherman Oaks, California.
