*Nashville belonged to the best and brightest from the gospel community last weekend, as the nominations for the Stellar Awards were revealed October 23rd. The one-hour telecast of this ceremony was hosted by Donnie McClurkin.
James Fortune led this year’s nominees, earning an impressive ten nods, with seven of those for his collaboration with choir Fiya. Veteran superstars BeBe & CeCe Winans, Fred Hammond and Marvin Sapp also drew seven nominations each.
Kirk Franklin will receive the Thomas A. Dorsey Most Notable Achievement Award, Vanessa Bell Armstrong will be honored with the Ambassador Dr. Bobby Jones Legend Award, and Donald Lawrence will receive the James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award.
It was also announced that the Female Vocalist of the Year Award has been renamed in honor of the “Queen of Gospel” Albertina Walker, who recently passed away.
Along with nominations highlighting the best gospel artists, there were also nominations revealed for the top radio stations serving urban gospel music.
“I was extremely pleased with the successful outcome of our first-ever live nominee announcement on the GMC television network,” Central City founder/Chairman Don Jackson stated, whose company Central City Productions taped the nomination show and aired it on the Gospel Music Channel (GMC) last Tuesday.
The Stellar Awards Show will be taped before a live audience on Saturday, January 15, 2011 and is scheduled to air in syndication from January 22, 2011 to March 13, 2011 on the GMC network. Tickets for the telecast are on sale now at ticketmaster.com, with the price ranging from $35-$200.
