*Riding a wave of popular anger over a sluggish economic recovery and disappointment with Democratic policies, Republicans win control of the House of Representatives.
Rep. Nancy Pelosi, a favorite target of Republicans, will lose the speaker’s gavel. She will likely be replaced by Minority Leader John A. Boehner of Ohio, whose majority will be far more conservative than in past years.
Meanwhile, the GOP took away a number of Senate seats, but Democrats will maintain control. Democrats held a 60-vote supermajority as late as January, but Republicans nearly erased the changes in the 2006 and 2008 elections, when Democrats gained a combined 14 seats.
