*Kanye West is now saying that the entire motivation behind his album cover for “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” was to create “something that will be banned.”

The rapper requested artist George Condo come up with some kind of artwork that would cause stores to ban it from shelves – which is exactly what happened at Wal-Mart. Officials there balked at the cover depicting a nude West with a naked female figure, complete with wings and a tail, in a compromising position.

Breaking the news to fans on his Twitter.com blog, he wrote, “Yoooo they banned my album cover! Banned in the USA! They don’t want me chilling on the couch with my phoenix!”

He went on to question the ban, adding: “So Nirvana can have a naked human being on their cover but I can’t have a painting of a monster with no arms and a polka dot tail and wings.”

But, in an interview with The New Yorker, Condo admits they set out on the collaboration with the intention to provoke such a reaction – to create “something that will be banned.”

The hip-hop star subsequently joked that he was “deeply sorry if I haven’t offended everybody” with the cover art.

West refused to scrap the artwork and instead decided to release the disc with four interchangeable covers, so fans could still appreciate his original album choice.
