*If you watched the Oscars about two weeks ago, you noticed that despite an appearance by Oprah Winfrey and Jennifer Hudson, there was a lack of color at the event.
In contrast, the 42nd Annual NAACP kicked off last Friday at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, and recognized some outstanding achievement made this past year in the areas of art, politics, and entertainment.
Among the recipients were heavy hitters such as Halle Berry, Angela Bassett, LL Cool J, Terrence Howard, Tyler Perry, Kimberly Elise, Phylicia Rashad, Samuel Jackson, Colin Powell.
The NAACP Image awards were aired on March 5th by Fox and were hosted by funnyman Wayne Brady and actress Holly Robinson Pete. The event recognized people of color who have contributed to the advancement of colored people through their craft, talent, or occupation.
The general consensus of attendees felt that being nominated or winning an award was far more significant because of what the NAACP stands for, a commitment towards raising awareness for political, educational, social and economic equality of minority group citizens.
