*ATLANTA, GA – On April 4, 2011, multi-faceted entertainer Steve Harvey and co-host Sherri Shepherd of The View will host the 2nd annual Steve Harvey Foundation Gala in New York, honoring award-winning director, playwright and actor Tyler Perry, Ford Motor Company’s President and CEO Alan Mulally, and actor/comedian Chris Rock and philanthropist Malaak Rock with the Steve Harvey Foundation’s Helping Hand Award.

Coming together at Cipriani Wall Street, the unforgettable evening is sponsored by Ford Motor Company and Neiman Marcus, and will feature the musical stylings of multiple Grammy® Award winning saxophonist David Sanborn, with event co-chairs including Geoffrey Canada, David Robinson, Russell Simmons, and more lending support.

Recognizing the achievements of Tyler Perry, Chris and Malaak Rock, and Alan Mulally, the Steve Harvey Foundation’s Helping Hand Award honors those who extend their hands on a continual basis to ensure that, at the end of their time, they have done their fair share to help their fellow man.

Inaugural honorees include Geoffrey Canada of Harlem Children’s Zone, Pamela El of State Farm, and award-winning actor and director Denzel Washington, with gala proceeds benefiting the Steve Harvey Foundation’s cornerstone program, the Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend for Young Men.

“It’s an honor to present Helping Hand Awards to Tyler Perry, Alan Mulally, and Chris and Malaak Rock this year,” says Harvey. “It’s often hard to recognize an opportunity without knowing your dream first, and these four individuals have made a great impact on communities large and small, courageously and selflessly sharing their dreams and their achievements. Their leadership continues to empower and inspire us as well as future generations, on creating your own opportunities and blazing a trail for others. Sherri Shepherd has also served as an inspiration to so many, and bringing our humor together as co-hosts will surely be a must-see evening that brings out the best comedy from both of us!”

Proceeds from the Steve Harvey Foundation Gala will specifically support the Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend for Young Men, a program hosted for teenage boys around the country.  Harvey created this dynamic program to bring guidance to young men ages 13-18 who are without fathers in their lives, empowering them with the principles of dream building and manhood.

Since hosting the inaugural Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend for Young Men in 2009 during Father’s Day Weekend, Harvey has brought 100 teenage boys and their guardians from around the country to his ranch in Dallas every Father’s Day Weekend.  Filled with special guests, camping experiences and mentoring programs, the weekend’s goal is to teach the Principles of Manhood to young men so that they may one day achieve their dreams, and become productive men who are balanced emotionally, politically and economically.  The program’s success inspired Harvey to expand his mission nationwide and create satellite mentoring programs in different cities, including New York, Chicago, New Orleans and Los Angeles.  Harvey recently hosted a regional mentoring weekend during the NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles, mentoring 100 LA-area boys with speakers including Cedric the Entertainer, David Robinson, Lamman Rucker, Terrence J and more serving up additional inspiration.  This year’s Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend for Young Men in Dallas will take place June 16th -19th with registration starting March 7th.  Several previous participants will return this year to serve as junior counselors.

Tickets, as well as table and sponsorship opportunities are available for the Steve Harvey Foundation Gala with tickets priced at $1,000.  Eligible participants can visit www.SteveHarvey.com starting March 7th to register for the Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend for Young Men taking place Father’s Day Weekend in Dallas.  For information about The Steve Harvey Foundation Gala or tickets and tables, The Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend for Young Men or to make a donation, please visit www.SteveHarveyFoundation.com.
