*There were other memorable performances at this weekend’s South by Southwest Festival besides Kanye West and company.

Snoop Dogg’s Funk n Soul Extravaganza took place Saturday night, doubling as a tribute to the rappers late childhood friend Nate Dogg.

Backed by longtime crew Tha Dogg Pound and Warren G, along with recent collaborators Dam-Funk and Mayer Hawthorne, Snoop and the crew largely wore matching RIP Nate Dogg shirts and performed nearly every hit the crew had featuring Nate on the hook, including “Ain’t No Fun (If the Homies Can’t Have None),” “Regulate” and “The Next Episode.”

Snoop also paid homage to fallen rappers Tupac and Notorious B.I.G., but he described losing Nate Dogg as “a little more heart-wrenching. That’s like my brother. Me and Nate were friends since 1986, so it’s a little bit deeper… This is somebody who started with me. We dreamed the same dream and our dreams came true, and now he’s no longer with us. So it’s a little hard to deal with, but in the spirit of Nate Dogg we’re dealing with it because we know he would want us to celebrate and have a good time. That’s the spirit he possessed.”
