*Grammy-nominated songwriter Ester Dean has taken on a new role in the industry and is on her way to making her career into a singing one.

The 24-year-old Oklahoma native, who is the writer behind Katy Perry’s “Firework,” some of Usher’s hits as well as Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, and Mary J. Blige, admitted that “Drop It Low” was originally meant for Ciara.

The song was actually picked up by Britney Spears, though. Ciara didn’t want the song.

But Britney never made it happen so the songwriter was convinced to take it for herself. And that’s exactly what she did.

Initially hesitant to begin a solo career, the new found artist found her confidence after recognizing her vast accomplishments and appearances on records like Jeremih’s remix to “Birthday Sex.”

She is still working on her untitled debut album.
