*A potential juror in the Rod Blagojevich corruption trial tried unsuccessfully to use Oprah Winfrey’s final talk show as an excuse to get out of jury duty, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.
The woman told U.S District Judge James Zagel she didn’t want her jury service to interfere with the May 10th taping of the talk show queen’s final program, for which she has four tickets. Winfrey’s final episode will air on May 25, 2011, but the taping date is set to clash with the Blagojevich trial.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Reid Schar defended the women, saying, “It’s the last year, judge.”
Zagel seemed unsympathetic, saying, “Everybody here knows that this juror will survive if she doesn’t make it to the show.”
Former Democratic politician Blagojevich was arrested on federal corruption charges including conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and solicitation of bribery in 2008.
