*NBC Chicago’s sports anchor Daryl Hawks was found dead in an Atlanta hotel room today of unknown causes. This marks the second time in the past decade the station’s sports anchor has died suddenly.

Hawks, 38, was in Atlanta to cover the Chicago Bulls-Atlanta Hawks NBA playoff game.

Employees at the hotel discovered Hawks in his room this morning, and he was pronounced dead at a hospital.

“We are stunned right now,” station manager Frank Whittaker said in a statement.

In 2002, the station’s sports anchor Darrian Chapman, 37, died while preparing to play hockey at a Chicago rink. He had previously suffered a heart attack.

Hawks, a former U.S. Marine and semi-pro football player, was fit and loved to work out, according to published reports.

He was married and had two children.
