*Officials in Jimi Hendrix’s hometown of Seattle are asking fans to donate money toward the renovation of a park is to be renamed in the guitar great’s honor.
The space will be called the Jimi Hendrix Park after undergoing a makeover to commemorate the rocker’s legacy.
Designers have submitted proposals for features, including a live music platform, a sculpted butterfly garden and walkways inscribed with Hendrix’s lyrics.
Organizers at the Jimi Hendrix Park Foundation hope to raise $2 million for the cost of the overhaul by November 2012 – when the guitarist would have turned 70.
Hendrix’s stepsister Janie recently made a $20,000 contribution to the fund.
