*Inglewood, Calif. — Phunksters get ready for a night of some of the funkiest sounds in music featuring funk legends “The Zapp Band”, live in concert Saturday, February 25th at the Hollywood Park Casino at 3883 West Century Blvd., Inglewood, Calif. The evening kicks off at 7 p.m. with a cocktail hour and special open mic tribute session in honor of the late Whitney Houston, open to all concertgoers.
Zapp first burst on the scene in 1979 with three of five Troutman brothers: Lester, Larry and Roger who were discovered by members of P-Funk and signed to its leader George Clinton’s label Uncle Jam Records. A year later, the group signed under P-Funk’s parent label, Warner Bros. Records and began working on their first record at united sound in Detroit album courtesy of co-production from Bootsy Collins. Zapp reached platinum heights in 1980 with the release or their self-titled debut album peaking at the top twenty of the Billboard Top 200 thanks to the success of their leading single, the Roger composition, “More Bounce to the Ounce“, which reached number two on the Hot Soul Singles chart. Zapp’s group leader the late Roger Troutman made the ‘talk box‘ famous, and as the group’s producer, chief writer, arranger, and composer was responsible for a stream of R&B chart-topping hits such as: “I Can Make You Dance“, “Doo Wa Ditty“, “Computer Love” and “More Bounce to the Ounce” to name a few.
Concert attendees will have an opportunity to hear the hottest new old school funk band to hit the scene, The Phantoms of Phunk, who will be opening for the Zapp Band and charging the atmosphere with their rhythmic grooves. Though certainly not new to the music world, this group of musicians collectively has over 30 years experience in the entertainment industry having performed with the likes of such music greats as: Luther Vandross, Rose Royce, Bobby Warren, Vernon Garrett, Millie Jackson and more. Phantoms of Phunk formed in June 2011 but are musicians home grown from Los Angeless featuring group leader known as (‘that dam drummer‘) Faith Jobe; Ken Jones and Arnell “Coop” Cooper on keyboards and background vocals; bassist Rick Jones; Landy Shores on guitar; and lead vocals by songstress Sharee Dunn. Plans for the release of their new single titled ‘Funk This Funk‘ as well as a national tour coming this summer. Look for Phantoms of Phunk to hit a city near you!

A Night of Phunk concert is hosted by That Dam Drummer productions in association with Solid Corps professional Sound and sponsored by Jazz N’ Devine Stylez Salon. Concert hosts want to raise awareness about donate life through this music event and vendors with information about this important cause will be on site at the venue.
