*Let’s be honest here, the stories coming out of Compton are rarely good.

The reputation of this southern California city has been notorious; what with all the shootings, killings, and other acts of dread.

But now, with the holiday season rapidly approaching, the city is shown in a different light, through the eye of a movie lens, “Christmas In Compton” plans to help you bust a gut with big laughs and holiday cheer when it opens in theaters nationwide on November 9.

Brought to us by Barnholtz Entertainment and Bright Idea Entertainment, “Christmas in Compton” stars Omar Gooding  (TV’s “Hanging with Mr. Cooper”), Keith David (Crash, Platoon, 2013), Sheryl Lee Ralph (Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit), Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), Miguel A. Núñez Jr. (Juwanna Man) and Orlando Brown (TV’s “That’s So Raven”).

The story focuses on Big Earl, (a hilarious role played by Keith David), the owner of a Christmas tree lot in Compton. A man with a big heart and a big vision, he demands success from everyone around him. All kinds of trouble erupts the week before Christmas when his son, Derrick, a part-time music producer and part-time Christmas tree lot employee, crosses the line to prove to Big Earl that he is a success.

The colorful characters that populate the tree lot cause additional complications for Derrick as he tries to solve his problems secretly. Things spiral out of Derrick’s control, jeopardizing the survival of the lot, and more importantly, his relationship with his father. What Derrick needs is a miracle; a Christmas miracle in Compton.

We’re howling already at the line between Keith David and the hispanic dude at the end. Hint: Guadalajara. Check out the trailer below.
