obama*We’ve heard of people having an opinion based on the president’s actual response to a question; but criticizing the president for actually answering a question is something else.

That ridiculous judgment call didn’t stop “The Wrap” TV journalist, Tim Molloy; who decided to dedicate an entire article on Barack Obama choosing to respond to a pop-culture question (Molloy obviously thought he should have ignored) when he called into a Miami radio station Y100 and spoke with host, Michael Yo.

In Molloy’s article titled:

“Obama Stupidly Weighs in On Mariah-Minaj Dispute”

… he begins his distorted perspective by opening with,”President Obama was doing one of those act-like-a-regular-person campaign appearances…”

Now stop right here, as we envision throngs of people cocking their head to the side saying, “WTF? He’s actually criticizing Barack Obama for being cool enough to have an answer?”

It’s no surprise that we are simply not accustomed to a POTUS with the coolness of a Barack Obama. We have not seen someone this “authentically available” since … since … How dare he have the swagger to even know who Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj are? And then go as far as to admit to having them on his iPod? That’s obviously too much for someone like Molloy to bear!

POTUS must not be doing his job, right?

A question was posed to the president, and he had the where-with-all to provide an intelligent response. Without stuttering, he responded to a question that had nothing to do with politics:

“I think that they are going to be able to sort it out, I am confident…I’m all about bringing people together, working for the same cause. I think both outstanding artists are going to be able to make sure that they’re moving forward and not going backwards.”

C’mon, in many peoples’ book this is recognized as an admirable demonstration of a man who can speak on anything—even gossipy, pop culture, bullcrap. From this answer, the president possibly may not even know the details about the squabble between Carey and Minaj; but instead of offering the expected response that would come from someone of his caliber, “Well, I am unable to respond to this question,” the mere fact that he stepped up and did so anyway is nothing less than brilliant! He’s got the young folks’ attention now. Not to mention he has teenaged children, who he obviously connects with; as this one poster noted:

“No matter that he is the leader of the free world. He has young daughters. You cannot really believe they talk about world politics at dinner …”

Dude, your president is a person of the world who had a life even before this title and he’s not afraid to let you know that. He is obviously connected to his country and its people on every level. Many people would want someone like this representing their country. After all, it was this type of swagger that had young people come out in droves to vote Obama into office in the first place.

Of course, in this same radio interview, the president went on to answer other questions posed to him with the same gracious, knowledgeable affect. Molloy conveniently didn’t mention that. In fact, we have to give Michael Yo serious props for conducting a very, very good interview with the POTUS.

On the other hand, if we can somewhat contradict ourselves, we do agree with one teeny, tiny portion of a point posted by a respondent. If anything is “dumb” about this entire issue, it was the Carey-Minaj question posed to the president by Michael Yo, the radio host. You’d better believe Mitt Romney would not have answered the question; but not for the reasons a Molloy would expect; he would not have been able to. I’d bet the sale of a bridge on it.

Of course, he would not have been honest enough to admit such a thing; instead, he would most likely have tried to cover up this ignorance with sarcasm.

As you were.
