Gayle King*Oprah’s best bud, Gayle King openly admits that her plan going into motherhood was not to be a full time mom.

The daytime television veteran says that in 7th grade she decided to eventually have children, but not at the expense of her career.

“I knew from the time that I was pregnant that I was not going to be a stay-at-home mom,” King said in a Q&A for “CBS This Morning” Eye-Opening Mom’s series. “I love working and I happen to believe that if you’re happy in your life and you’re happy in what you’re doing, it makes you a better person, it makes you a better mother, it makes you a better partner and it makes you better at your job,” she added, reiterating a sentiment that she expressed in an interview with The Huffington Post last year.

The daytime television veteran also talks about her shortcomings in the kitchen.

“One of the biggest regrets I had was nutrition. I was terrible!” King said, blaming her inability to cook on her family’s heavy intake of processed foods. Though her 26-year-old daughter, Kirby, has course corrected, King says that if she could rear her children all over again, she would figure out a way to feed her children in a more healthful way.
