Vanessa Williams-TYG-026202*Vanessa Williams is going all in for Mother’s Day this year.

She’s not doing anything conventional or run of the mill, she’s working.

But she’s going to be on stage in her new Broadway play, “Trip to Bountiful,” which co-stars Cuba Gooding Jr. and Cicely Tyson.

“I have a three o’clock matinee,” she told People. “No rest for the weary. Maybe my kids will surprise me with a dinner afterwards.”

Her moment on stage won’t be just about work, though. She said she plans to honor her late grandmothers who both died fighting heart disease. So she’s partnered with Bayer Aspirin on its “Handbags and Hearts” campaign.

“I’m very, very aware of heart health,” Vanessa explained. “I’m very mindful of my diet and exercise, and I think being a woman, you have to be. I’m a mother of four, I just turned 50 this year, and I want to be around for a long time.”

And being a mother is a gift, she added. She enjoys it, but has a few tips for those wanting to become mothers.

“Motherhood is one of the greatest gifts and surprises in life,” said Williams. “You always have to be prepared for the unexpected. You have to be able to surrender to whatever situation it is and do the best you can at any moment.
