robin thicke*The music world has spoken.

Billboard 100‘s newest No. 1 single belongs to (drum roll please) Robin Thicke, not his industry rival Justin Timberlake.

Thicke’s slam dunk hit, “Blurred Lines,” secured the top spot 4 weeks ago.

The song’s rise to No. 1 is faster than any other single in the past three years, sources say. In 2010, Usher’s “OMG,” featuring, experienced similar chart-topping success.

“Lines” features T.I. and Pharrell Williams, and it’s also Thicke’s first number one single in this category.

Thicke’s takeover of the Hot 100 list puts him in uncharted territory, and has provided a much needed career boost in the process.

His breakout single, “Lost Without You,” became somewhat of a Valentine’s Day anthem in 2007, capturing the hearts of helpless romantics everywhere.

Since then, the soulful crooner has been a model of consistency, but his music rarely moves the needle compared to other seasoned artists of the R&B genre.

“Lines” is Thicke’s third No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, following “Lost” (11 weeks, 2007) and “Sex Therapy” (2 weeks, 2010).

It’s T.I.’s fourth (and first since 2008’s “Whatever You Like”) and Pharrell’s fourth (and first since “Money”) on the genre tally.

“Lines” rapidly climbed the Hot 100 list with a whopping 44% jump in overall chart points, displacing Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Can’t Hold Us,” featuring Ray Dalton (1-2; down 4%).

“Lines” has also exceeded 1 million downloads sold, marking Thicke’s first song to reach the milestone. Also worth noting is the fact the video has received or 45 MILLION views on YouTube:
