State’s attorneys hold the hoodie up, encased in glass, for display during George Zimmerman murder trial.

*The Trayvon Martin case has become a central part of the American conversation on laws, especially the Stand Your Ground Law,  but also gun laws.

Not only that, the case sparked a conversation on civil rights and the racial profiling of black men in America that has nestled itself into American history.

The Smithsonian is now mulling over the idea of having Trayvon Martin’s hoodie displayed in the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

The director for the new museum set to open in 2015, Lonnie Bunch wants the “piece of history for its permanent collection.”
