*Now that the infamous funeral selfie with British prime minister David Cameron, President Barack Obama and Danish prime minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt has become a global hot topic, Cameron has felt the need to explain why he took part.

Regarding the pic during Nelson Mandela’s memorial service on Tuesday, Cameron told MPs today: “When a member of the Kinnock family asked me for a photograph, I thought it was only polite to say yes.”

Thorning-Schmidt, the Social Democrat leader of Denmark, is married to Stephen Kinnock – the son of former Labour leader Neil Kinnock.

The three world leaders have since been criticized by some for being disrespectful at a service held to mark Mandela’s death. Michelle Obama also made global – yes GLOBAL headlines for what appeared to be an annoyed reaction.

Cameron also said today that perhaps he should “remember the TV cameras are always on.”
