*Jonathan Butler continues to enthrall music fans with his excellent musicianship and indelible spirit. Butler became known to the U. S. in the 1980’s as a talented new artist and native South African who survived the brutal strains of Apartheid in his youth. He emerged as the youngest in a family of seventeen. Jonathan was obviously touched by the life of Nelson Mandela and though he is excited about his upcoming performances with Dave Koz and Oleta Adams, he remains in a mode of reflection as the world continues to mourn the loss and celebrate the life of Mandela.
Jonathan Butler to EURweb.com: The tone is obviously a great sense of life and Mandela was the father of life our consciousness as South Africans, and better South Africans. He is an irreplaceable man.
Jonathan recalls being encouraged by Mandela’s charge to him: “He always said we need you out there!” At thirteen, Jonathan was the first black artist to be played on white radio in South Africa. He says that music brought hope to the nation of South Africa during times of turmoil. Through the newly launched Jonathan Butler Foundation, he hopes to fund music education programs that give children the purpose to overcome a life of drugs and poverty.
Jonathan Butler is currently preparing for the last dates of his festive tour with Dave Koz, Oleta Adams and Keiko Matsui. Accentuating the incredible lineup is the fact that Jonathan’s first Christmas album “Merry Christmas To You” has also just been released.
