The critically acclaimed actor, and now Academy Award nominee for best supporting actress, will be honored next month at Essence magazine’s annual Black Women in Hollywood luncheon.
The event will take place on Feb. 27 in Beverly Hills.
In addition to Nyong’o, the luncheon will recognize director Ava DuVernay and newly elected president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Cheryl Boone Isaacs. Actors like Jim Brown, Cicely Tyson, Diahann Carroll and Nichelle Nichols will also be recognized as the event commemorates the 50th anniversary of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
News of Nyong’o’s Essence honoring comes days after the entertainer attended the Golden Globes.
The entertainer, who has collected recognition and award nominations for playing Patsey in “12 Years a Slave,” lost out in the Best Supporting Actress category to “American Hustle” star Jennifer Lawrence.
