Oprah Winfrey is delighted to have been a part of “Lee Daniels’ The Butler.

Winfrey was nominated by the Screen Actors Guild for “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role” for her performance as Gloria Gaine.

EURweb associate Alex Hudgens of BlacktreeTV spoke to the tycoon on the red carpet at the SAG Awards, about  how important it is to have African American history brought to the forefront.

“For any culture or for any society to not know who they are, means they don’t know where they are going,” said the media mogul.”

Oprah SAG Awards This was the first SAG Awards show Winfrey has ever attended.

“It’s really exciting that it’s being presented in a forum that is both entertaining but also has extreme historical values; and that is the truth for “12 Years A Slave” and “Lee Daniels’ The Butler.” It is also the truth for learning about the whole AIDS epidemic and how difficult it was for the “Dallas Buyers Club.”

“Club” is based on the true-life story of a rodeo cowboy diagnosed with H.I.V. and given 30 days to live.

Lupita Nyong’o won the “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role” for her portrayal of Patsey in “12 Years A Slave.”

“I’m going to be working as a producer. And I’m going to try to get a role in Lee Daniels‘ next film,” Winfrey said to E! Online. “I just read his next script and oh my God! I’m going to have a little talk with my friend Lee Daniels.”

Oprah Lee Daniels SAG AwardsThis was Winfrey’s first movie role in the last 15 years.

“I’ve been working,” she laughed. “[But Daniels] convinced me.”

“I begged her!” Daniels revealed to E! Online. “I cursed her. I did everything. I pleaded!”

“He really did and I’m so glad I finally said yes,” Winfrey said. “I said no many times, but he doesn’t take no for an answer.”
