*Fresh from directing Denzel Washington in Fox’s forthcoming film “The Equalizer,” Antoine Fuqua has been tapped to direct Fox’s “Narco Sub,” the David Guggenheim-scripted thriller that has long been a priority project at the studio, reports Deadline.com.
The film is set in the world of drug smuggling. The title refers to the semi-submersible crafts that South American drug cartels have been using to ship cocaine into the U.S. without having to deal with land-based authorities.
Fuqua is next directing “Southpaw” at The Weinstein Company, and his reteam with “Training Day” star Washington on “The Equalizer” has generated such strong buzz at Sony that a sequel is already in the works.
Fuqua also is said to be mulling “The Magnificent Seven” at MGM.
