BET revealed to advertisers the special is not among the many returning to BET within the next year — including “BET Awards,” “BET Honors,” “BET Hip Hop Awards” and “Black Girls Rock.”
This is shocking due to the celebration’s continued success and high ratings.
The special brought in more than 2.6 million viewers this year.
The last celebration was hosted by the lovely and talented Taraji P. Henson and had an array of gospel greats — Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurkin and Tamela Mann.
Yet the stellar special’s guest list and ratings success wasn’t enough for BET to renew the special for next year.
The special premiered for the first time in 2000 and for 13 years was hosted by comedian, talk show/game show host Steve Harvey.
Due to his busy schedule, he handed the torch to Henson.
Yet after 14 years, the special will be no more in 2015 and even some of BET’s sources are out of the loop as to why the special wasn’t renew.
No official comment has been made by BET for the cancellation decision.
