Here’s more about the event:
WHAT: The Comedy Wings Competition is one of several platforms innovated by HBO and the ABFF designed to uncover talent and introduce them to a broader audience. Nine semi-finalists perform live before a panel of esteemed judges and a live audience and finalists will be chosen based on their overall performance, originality of material and audience reaction. The four finalists selected will be flown to New York City to have an opportunity to perform at the 2014 American Black Film Festival in June, and compete for the coveted title.
WHY: The Comedy Wings Competition was created when ABFF founder and CEO of Film Life Inc, Jeff Friday, partnered with HBO to discover new comedic talent. The competition’s goal is to create pathways and opportunities for up-and-coming talented comedians. ABFF has always participated in the cultivation of Black talent and has provided a stage over the years for dynamic performers such as Kevin Hart, Cedric the Entertainer, Craig Robinson, Tommy Davidson and Bill Bellamy.
