*Although Michael Sam is receiving a lot of exposure since generating headlines with the NFL’s first openly gay draft pick, there is one person who feels the defensive end’s foray into reality TV is not the right move to make.
According to TMZ Sports, former NFL QB Shaun King believes Sam’s OWN network reality show will seriously hurt his chances of becoming a member of the St. Louis Rams. The athlete is working on a docu-drama for the channel that centers around his journey to the NFL.
“After what happened with Tebow, the last thing an NFL team wants is a media circus,” King told the site. They just want to go about their business and focus on winning.”
Although he personally supports Sam, King — who played in the NFL from 1999 to 2006 – feels that teams may have received word about the reality show before the draft. As a result, the ex-football star believes this may explain why Sam was drafted in the 7th round.
“I had him pegged as a 5th round guy. I think the reason he dropped is because teams are afraid [of things like the reality show],” King shared. “I’m happy he got drafted. I support Michael Sam … but I think the reality show is a mistake.”
