The third time is a charm for Sandler and Barrymore who portray two single parents who find themselves trapped together with their kids on an African safari. A veteran in the game, Nealon revealed to EURweb’s Lee Bailey that he still has to audition for most parts.
“The only thing I don’t audition for are Adam Sandler films.”
Known for his comedic talents on “Saturday Night Live” and his critically acclaimed role on the Showtime series “Weeds,” Nealon plays Eddy an older man married to a much younger woman.
“My character was interesting. He likes to share his insights and likes to share his love with his young wife and he brought his son along to share in the happiness. This was his sincere idea of getting his family together.”
It’s not much of a stretch. In real life he’s 18 years older than his wife.
“That was kind of my research. That’s why I got married to a younger woman, I knew this role would come along one day,” Nealon jokes. “No, my wife is totally opposite Jessica Lowe’s character, she’s very smart.”
The film was shot on location in South Africa and Nealon says that the group went to safaris and enjoyed downtime in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
“This was a great project to be involved in and it was a great opportunity to go somewhere new.”
Nealon has a project in the works with AOL originals and Ellen DeGeneres called Kevin Nealon Laugh Lessons.
“It’s a web series where we take established comics and put them in a room with young kids to see if comedy can be taught,” Nealon explains. “It’s a real interesting dynamic.”
“Blended” opens tomorrow, Friday, May 23. You can check out Kevin Nealon doing his stand-up thing on Saturday, May 24, at the Fallsview Casino Resort in Niagara Falls, ON.
