*Maya Angelou’s family has posted the following statement on her Facebook page in the wake of her death Wednesday morning.
Dr. Maya Angelou passed quietly in her home before 8:00 a.m. EST. Her family is extremely grateful that her ascension was not belabored by a loss of acuity or comprehension. She lived a life as a teacher, activist, artist and human being. She was a warrior for equality, tolerance and peace. The family is extremely appreciative of the time we had with her and we know that she is looking down upon us with love.

Meanwhile tributes to Maya Angelou have flooded Twitter this morning.
Celebs from Mary J. Blige, to Rihanna to Darius Rucker, to The Game are either sharing some of the late poet’s many memorable quotes, or posting their own thoughts on her impact.
Radio host Charlamagne Tha God (aka Lenard McKelvey) shared an interesting tweet, noting that the endlessly quotable Angelou has changed his life in a specific way: “All these chicks going to be googling Maya Angelou quotes all day and realizing those deep words I text them in the AM aren’t mine.”
