*Fashion designer Rachel Roy is said to have been the catalyst in Solange’s May 5 attack on Jay Z in the elevator following the Met Gala.
Roy was an intern at Jay Z’s Roc-a-Fella Records back in the day before eventually marrying his business partner and friend Damon Dash in 2005. Their marriage lasted four years.
According to People magazine, there are multiple accounts of what allegedly went down between Roy and Solange at the party. According to one source, “Solange was provoked by Rachel,” and Beyoncé “intervened with a warning not to talk to her sister.” The source added that Jay Z did nothing to stop the alleged confrontation.
However, a witness at the party tells a different story, claiming the women’s interaction “was very limited” and that Solange was “yelling at other people at the party.”
Then towards the end of the night, “Jay said something inappropriate to Beyoncé and Solange, and she snapped,” says the source. “When they got in the elevator, it escalated quickly the way family tensions can. It got exceptionally heated the way family moments can.”
Adds the source: “Solange is super protective of Beyoncé.”
While the witness claims Solange was under the influence, the source says the singer “was not intoxicated” and has already moved on.
“She’s fine now,” the source says of Solange. “She’s back home in New Orleans and she’s going on with her business.”
