Boyega & James

*John Boyega might have a new major role under his belt that everyone is talking about, but he’s losing another one.

Stephan James is in talks to replace Boyega in a biopic about Jesse Owens in Stephen Hopkins‘ “Race.”

Lucky James, since Boyega had to drop out due to his new starring role in “Star Wars: Episode VII.”

Hopkins will direct the film about four-time Olympic gold medal winner Owens at the 1936’s Berlin Olympics. Hitler tried to ban black and Jewish folks from participating in the Olympics until he was threatened with a boycott.

“Race” will tell the journey of Owens traveling from Alabama to Germany in a racist world where he had to overcome prejudices and inspired others along the way.

James is already building quite the resume. He starred on “Degrassi: The Next Generation,” “The Gabby Douglas Story” and “Home Again.”

Some of his other major films — football movie “When the Game Stands Tall” is coming soon and he’s shooting the MLK drama, “Selma.”

Hopkins will produce “Race” along with many others and Al Munteanu from SquareOne Entertainment will executive produce.
