*Coalition for At-Risk Restoring Youth (CARRY) is proud to announce the 2014 Annual Benefit Awards Gala. CARRY is a non-profit organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of at-risk youth through pro-bono dermatology, medical, and social skills programs.
Founded by dermatologist Dr. Pearl Grimes, CARRY’s team of motivated leaders in the Los Angeles area include medical professionals, corporate leaders, attorneys, educators, social service advocates, and members of the entertainment community.
Grimes said, “With the help of our donors and supporters, we carry our youth to a safe, secure and productive place. We invite everyone to learn more about CARRY. Support the gala and join us to make a profound impact in the lives of the youth we serve.”
The gala, which is the organizations signature fundraiser, will be held Friday, June 6, 2014, 6:30pm – 11:30pm at the Montage Beverly Hotel. The celebrity studded black-tie media event will feature exquisite décor, succulent dinner fare, cocktails and a fabulous silent and live auction with auction items ranging from destination trips to jewelry to rare collectibles.
Guests will also enjoy an exciting live performance by legendary R&B group, Honey Cone featuring Edna Wright.
CARRY announced one of this year’s esteemed honorees, E! News Co-Anchor, Author, and Philanthropist Terrence “J” Jenkins. Dr. Grimes said, “There is so much synergy between Terrence “J” Jenkins’ work and CARRY’s mission. We are all working for the same cause, which is to do everything we can to impact at-risk youth in our city and our nation at large. We are deeply proud to honor Mr. Jenkins, whose professional and philanthropic work exemplifies excellence and moves our mission forward.”
Charismatic television and film actor, philanthropist and author Terrence ‘J’ Jenkins is the new co-anchor alongside Giuliana Rancic of the international news program E! NEWS.
Broadcasted on the acclaimed E! Network, the wildly successful pop culture news show dedicates itself to keeping its millions of viewers current on everything related to the entertainment industry; delivering up-to-the-minute entertainment news and celebrity inside information. Jenkins is no stranger to the hosting world after seven years on BET’s 106 & PARK; the longest-running music countdown show in history.
Jenkins had major film roles in the Fox Searchlight feature film BAGGAGE CLAIM, alongside Paula Patton, Djimon Hounsou, Derek Luke, Taye Diggs, Jill Scott, and Christina Milian and Jenkins also appeared alongside Chris Brown, Josh Holloway and Josh Peck in the Screen Gems feature BATTLE OF THE YEAR: THE DREAM CONTINUES. This summer, Jenkins will reprise his role as “Michael” in the highly anticipated sequel THINK LIKE A MAN TOO, in theaters June 20, 2014.
After signing a book deal with HarperCollins’ IT BOOKS, Jenkins is able to add the title, author to his resume. His first literary work, THE WEALTH OF MY MOTHER’S WISDOM was published in October 2013. His role as Michael, a perennial mama’s boy in the box office smash hit, THINK LIKE A MAN (adapted from Steve Harvey’s popular book, ‘Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man’) inspired him to take an in-depth look at his own mother and her extraordinary journey of raising him while still a teenager herself. Many of the successful moments in Jenkins life, both personally and professionally, have been credited to the lessons that his mother taught him andhe’s proud to share her words of wisdom to inspire others.
Outside of his acting career and his hosting duties at E!, Jenkins is a spokesperson for Ronald McDonald’s House Charities Future Achievers Scholarship Campaign, a mentor with Steve Harvey’s Disney Dreamers Academy and an avid supporter of the Newark, New Jersey Boys and Girls Club.
