*Professor Melvin Crispell, a gospel musician and songwriter credited with penning a string of gospel hits, has died at the age of 46.
The artist passed away on Thursday, May 29, at Carolina Medical Center in Pineville, North Carolina. An official cause of death has yet to be released, but reports suggest he died following minor surgery as a result of complications related to diabetes.
Crispell, also known for his talents on the organ, was credited with penning Hezekiah Walker’s “Jesus Is My Help” and “Wonderful Is Your Name”; and James Hall Worship & Praise tracks “Caught Up” and “He Took My Place.”
Paying tribute to Crispell, singer Yolanda Adams tweeted, “Melvin Crispell is a legend whose music influenced choirs & musicians. His legacy will live on through the music God birthed through him.”
