*”Begin Again” begins in theaters again this weekend.
The Weinstein Company returns the film to theaters Friday (Aug. 29) in a bid to reacquaint it with critics and Academy voters ahead of this year’s award season.
“Audiences this summer fell in love with the amazing cast and soundtrack of ‘Begin Again,’ and we’re thrilled that we have the chance to bring it back to the big screen and share it with more moviegoers,” said TWC distribution president Erik Lomis.
Keira Knightley stars as a fledgling musician who, after being dumped by her boyfriend (Adam Levine, in his film debut) as he becomes a pop star, is discovered by a washed up music producer played by Mark Ruffalo.
Ahead of the film’s initial release in June, Levine said his character in writer/director John Carney’s script was so similar to his own rise to fame with Maroon 5 that the acting just came naturally. Listen below.
To celebrate the film’s re-release, Interscope has released an extended acoustic performance of Levine’s “Lost Stars,” which appears on the movie’s soundtrack.
Cee-Lo Green, Mos Def, Catherine Keener, James Corden, and Hailee Steinfeld also star in the film.
Originally titled “Can A Song Save Your Life?,” the script was bought for a reported $7 million and a $20 million P&A (prints and advertising) commitment last year after a bidding war at the Toronto International Film Festival. It made $27 million worldwide in its initial run, beginning with a June 27 release in the US.
