Celebrities Show Up and Turn Up at 6th Annual Merge Summit

ABC’s “black-ish” Screening and Q&A with Cast and Creators (L-R): Traci Blackwell, Kenya Barris, Larry Wilmore, Tracee Ellis Ross, Anthony Anderson, Robi Reed, Laurence Fishburne, Shaun Robinson

*The Sixth Annual Merge Summit was held August 21-23, 2014 at the historic Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles.

Hundreds came out to see the industry’s top entertainers and executives lead more than 20 interactive panel discussions, workshops and Master Class sessions covering music, television, branding and new media.

Celebs included the leads of ABC’s new show “Black-ish”: Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross and Laurence Fishburne; hot gospel artists like Mali Music, Deitrick Haddon, Michelle Williams and Erica Campbell; and wild cards like Common, Mikki Taylor,  Lala Anthony, Lynn Whitfield and cast members of “Preachers of LA.” There were close to 75 celebs & industry movers and shakers; too many to count! This one of a kind event integrates faith and entertainment providing an opportunity for men and women of faith to interface, learn and partner with leading executives and talent in the entertainment industry.  The founders, Dr. Holly Carter and Robi Reed did a fantastic job organizing all the seminars, all while looking fabulous.

Our associate, LaCora Stephens, spoke to a few of the guests on the red carpet to get their take on the importance of faith in the industry.

Singer Howard Hewett stated:

“I’ve been merging faith and entertainment my whole career; it’s about time people catch up with what I’m doing.”

He went on to discuss his  song, “Say Amen.” Mali Music had other matters on his heart: Ferguson.

“It’s about time someone rises up around here.”

He then gives a simple and pure anecdote that will kill hate.

New lead to Tyler Perry’s “If Loving You is Wrong,” Edwina Findley, spoke words of inspiration to everyone in the field of entertainment.

“What we have is our faith; in this industry we can feel like it’s all about me and ego sets in.  Then you start to get away from God.  But if we really look at it, it’s God that has opened the door, not us.”

This, my friends, is what the Merge Summit is about: faith and entertainment.
