*Even though to some, Rev. Al Sharpton at 59 may look the same age as Rev. Jesse Jackson at 72, he’s finally come into his own and is now practically the face of the modern civil rights movement. And, oh yeah, Rev. Al has no problem acknowledging that he’s the one now and not Jesse.
“I think he’s (Jackson) now realized that he’s older now,” Sharpton says in a new Politico piece. “And he realizes that I’ve come into my own and he’s got to deal with it.”
The Politico profile shows how Sharpton, now host of MSNBC’s “Politics Nation,” transformed himself from local race agitator to a serious player in politics and close adviser to President Obama. The piece also focuses on Sharpton’s role in Ferguson, MO, which of course is ground zero in the Mike Brown shooting incident.
“He realized I wasn’t as irrational or as crazy as people thought,” Sharpton said of his once distant relationship with President Barack Obama.
Jackson even gives props to Rev. Al in the article, saying of Sharpton’s role in Ferguson: “He’s the one who’s talking to the Justice Department.”
