*Ferguson Mayor James Knowles was a guest on Tamron Hall’s MSNBC program “NewsNation” Tuesday to discuss the racial disparity in his town that has played a part in the police shooting of Michael Brown and the subsequent protests.
The Republican mayor first informed Hall that there is “no racial divide” in the area. When Hall asked if black residents shared his point of view, he affirmed that it is the “perspective of all residents in our city.”
Knowles said the violent protests are “not representative of us” and that Ferguson has been a “model” for a city transitioning from being predominantly white middle class to predominately African-American middle class.
In addition to a white mayor, Ferguson has a predominantly white legislative branch, school board and police force despite a majority African American community.
