*From the buzz going around, Denzel Washington looks to have another possible hit franchise on his hands with “The Equalizer.”
The film, which also stars Chloe Grace Moretz, Marton Csokas and Melissa Leo, features the actor as Robert McCall, a retired intelligence operator who faked his own death to live under the radar. But after finding a young woman (Moretz) in trouble with the Russian mob, McCall returns to action to use his extreme tactics for good.
Scheduled to make its world premiere this month at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), “The Equalizer” marks Washington’s second collaboration with director Antoine Fuqua. Their first film, “Training Day,” earned the entertainer an Oscar for best actor.
“The Equalizer” is an adaptation of the classic TV show, which starred the late Edward Woodward as a former secret agent with a “mysterious past” who tries to atone for past sins by offering his services as an investigator for free.
According to Indiewire.com, “The Equalizer” is said to be designed to launch the first film franchise for Washington. Translation: If the reportedly $50 million project does well at the box office, sequels will be made. Despite the film not being released yet, Indiewire reports that a sequel has already been greenlit.
