*The queen of media, Oprah Winfrey, is embarking on her “The Life You Want” empowerment tour, which kicked off last week in Atlanta.
Her eight-city journey will include some empowerment gurus — including health guru Dr. Deepak Chopra, Iyanla Vanzant of “Fix My Life,” author Mark Nepo, Pastor Rob Bell and “Eat, Pray, Love” author Elizabeth Gilbert.
Each stop will consist of two days. On day one, Oprah will talk about her life and career — advising folks with the lessons she’s learned. The following day her guests will discuss from an array of empowerment areas — forgiveness, mental health, following instincts and spirituality.
Recently, she stopped by Extra to talk about the tour, which has been on her bucket list for a minute.
She told Extra, “when I was a little girl, I had this dream of myself being on a stage like this, speaking to an audience. I didn’t know what I was talking about when I was having the dream, but this has always been something I thought would happen sometime in my life. And now it has.”
She added, “This was a bucket list for me because all those years at the Oprah show… the shows that excited me the most were shows where I was talking to people about things I knew could make a difference in their lives. For me, and the message of my life, is leaving people with something that can help them make their lives better.”
She wants her attendees to feel like they’re in control of their lives upon leaving the two-day event.
It was when I was 8 years old, when I first learned the poem ‘Invictus’ by William Ernest Henley. The last line of that poem is, ‘I am the master of my fate. I am the captain of my soul.’ So, that’s the lesson I want people to get, is that it doesn’t matter where you come from, what your mother did or didn’t do, what you had or didn’t have. Bottom line is, you are in the driver’s seat of your own life, you are the master of your fate and you have only you to hold responsible for what happens in your life… that’s it!
Oprah has been on a path of definitely figuring out the life she wants to live — striving to do better and be better. Her fans have seen her grew overtime — encouraging them to be better at living as well.
“I’m still trying to get the life I want! What I realize when I was putting all this together, I got some slices missing in my own life, and perhaps by the time I finish this tour, maybe I’ll be closer to living the life I want. I’m closer to it now than I was 10 years ago, than I was five years ago, or even three years ago, but I’m not there yet.”
