*David Oyelowo is capping off a year of accolades with an other starring role. This time it’s in the film “Americanah.”
Based on Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s best-selling novel of the same name, “Americanah” centers on the story of two Nigerian immigrants and adversities faced by them during their relationship. In addition to Oyelowo, “Americanah” will star Lupita Nyong’o.
News of the film comes amid critical acclaim the actor is receiving for his work in the Ava DuVernay-directed drama “Selma.”
While Oyelowo brings his star power to “Americanah,” Tessa Thompson steps into the world of boxing as the newest addition to the cast of “Creed.”
According to reports, the movie will focus on the grandson of Apollo Creed, who will be trained by Balboa. Creed was famously portrayed by Carl Weathers in 1976’s “Rocky.”
The film is the latest in a string of noticeable roles for Thompson, who plays the host of the titular radio show in “Dear White People” and will be seen in “Selma” as the civil rights activist Diane Nash.
Like Oyelowo, Thompson is receiving her share of props, with recognition coming in the form of a Gotham Award for breakthrough actress.
