*Dave Chappelle was accused of being too late and too drunk to perform during a Thursday gig in Detroit that had audience members running to Facebook demanding refunds.
According to TMZ, the comedian’s 9:30 p.m. show at the Fillmore went off the rails before it even started, with the performer showing up at late.
“We waited over two hours for him to start the show but he never did. Instead, he slurred and swayed through random questions that were screamed at him from the audience and for the few jokes that he did actually tell, he repeated two – embarrassing,” patron Brandy Kodetsky wrote on Facebook, making her case for a refund.
“Horrible, don’t go,” Heather Becker wrote on The Fillmore’s Facebook page. “Second show last night was ridiculous. Walked out. Did not get what I paid for . . . refunds please!”
Other attendees said Chappelle seemed intoxicated as he chain-smoked, rambled and slurred his way through the set, often yelling back at hecklers.
In video from the gig, an audience member yells, “Let’s hear some of the act!” Dave responds, “Well sir, it’s a little late for that. Right now I’ve gotta get off the stage because it’s 2:00 in the morning.”
The crowd tells him it was only 1 a.m.
Fans dropped anywhere from $50 to about $240 for tickets, and although many are demanding refunds … a Fillmore spokesperson tells TMZ they’re not responsible for artists’ content.
Meanwhile, a rep for Dave told TMZ: “Out of the 50 shows on the tour, Thursday was definitely not his best set. On the flip side, the incident inspired some additional sharp-witted material and (Friday) he came back with a vengeance.”
