paula deen's family kitchen

*Two years after Paula Deen’s career cratered like a soufflé after admitting she used the N-word in the past, the former TV chef is set to open a new restaurant specializing in the southern cuisine that first made her a household name.

E! News reports that Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen will open for both breakfast, lunch and dinner beginning April 27 in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.

“I am so excited to serve the food family style—in big bowls to the table. Everyone will share like they are at their grandmother’s table,” Deen told E! News exclusively. “Everything is so fresh. I want to take people back to the time when their feet were under their grandmother’s table. I want them to relive those memories and create new ones.”

The menu will include fried chicken, biscuits, fried okra, corn and sweet potatoes.

Deen’s admission of using the N-word took place during a taped deposition for a racial discrimination lawsuit which was eventually dropped. However, Food Network and other sponsors severed ties with the star.

She has slowly inched her way back into the public eye, with the launch of a pay digital network, and an upcoming radio show and mobile game.

Her dream for patrons of her new restaurant? “I want them to feel very satisfied. Dining at the restaurant is going to be an unforgettable experience. I want to fill their souls as well as bellies.”
