*The circus surrounding Washington’s professional football team seems to grow more insane by the minute.
Regarding quarterback Robert Griffin III, the third year player will not start the regular season as had been announced just weeks ago. Coach Jay Gruden this morning named backup Kirk Cousins as the starter when its season starts against the Miami Dolphins.
Gruden said Cousins won the job more than RGIII lost it: “I just think it’s not so much what somebody didn’t do, it’s just what Kirk has done and I think what he’s done in practice and OTAs has really opened our eyes, and he’s proven to be the best quarterback on our roster at this time, really. It’s a compliment to Kirk, not so much the other guys didn’t do this or didn’t do that. I just think Kirk has played so well that he has earned the right.”
The move comes on the heels of pre-season chaos – including a brawl with the Baltimore Ravens (with both coaches involved)…
…miscommunication over a concussion that knocked Griffin out of a July 24 pre-season game and kept him out of Saturday’s match up, and whispers that the team has been secretly looking to trade the QB, but no team was willing to take him. Not even the Jets, who just traded Mike Vick to Pittsburgh.
On Sunday, Fox’s Troy Aikman said the Redskins are more dysfunctional than the Kardashians.
In the midst of all this, receiver and budding reality star DeSean Jackson on Saturday posted a sexist message to his Instagram: “The woman who knows her place never loses her position.”
Jackson, who is about to be a father in November, has posted controversial things on social media in the past. Last season, his Instagram post about not being able to “do epic [stuff] with basic people” after RGIII’s horrible game against Tampa Bay was addressed in front of the team by Coach Gruden.
Jackson has since posted another Instagram message, which may or may not be in response to the mountain of backlash over his sexist post:
