NeNe has served as a guest host several times on past seasons and she confirmed her permanent hosting gig on her blog in a post titled: Making Joan Proud. She wrote:
“I’m honored to sit next to @mel_rivers on Monday for #FashionPolice as she takes her mom seat for the very first time. Joan gave me some great career advice one day while I was there co-hosting and I have never forgotten her words! Tune in MONDAY to E and catch us readdddd these girls fashions hunni from the VMA’s red carpet #lifeofnene #makingjoanproud #VMAS #FP #E.”
The new season of “Fashion Police” premieres August 31 for only six episodes.
NeNe previously announced that she would not return to film season 8 of RHOA. The rumored lineup to replace Leakes includes former castmates Sheree Whitfield, Marlo Hampton and newcomer Amiyah Scott – a transgender model. E! News reports that actress Kim Fields is also rumored to be filming the show.
Since leaving the series, NeNe has appeared on ABC’s “To Tell The Truth” game show, and she is set to cameo on BET’s “Real Husbands of Hollywood.” While Leakes has said that she departed Housewives so she can pursue other projects, many have wondered if she really left because Andy Cohen didn’t meet her financial demands.
“I mean, frankly, it wasn’t much of a surprise,” Andy said about NeNe’s departure. “We all kind of assumed that she wasn’t coming back. She had kind of moved on with her life. She wasn’t really hanging out with many of the women. And she was kind of over it, so think it just natural evolution had her growing away from the show. I hope that she’ll come back and visit.”
